Default Vista explained:

http://www.techworld.com/opsys/news/...gtype=samechan

...so if i use a computer to make a DRM-based file that is only supposed to be played on that very same computer, then try to replay it with a S/PDIF interface on THAT computer, vista will basically downgrade it to half of the bitrate, then repackage it again as the original bitrate.

this effectively would give me not only a signal a weak as the weakest link (the 1/2 bitrate file) it will also give me a file that weak with 3 conversions worth of errors.

good job microfuck, good job.

:edit:

time to setup for dual-booting to XP

I dont see why would anyone upgrade to vista, when we have win XP and linux and mac os. microsoft copy the themes from windowsblind and it also copy the way u open files/folders from the mac os and linux os. so what is new in vista other than it will suck ur blood out.

microsoft is making sure that people will buy vista, eventually 64-bit programs will start to roll out, with the only logical option being vista

also there will be a large need for DX10 in the near future, and unlike previous versions of windows which have, up until now, been primarily supported DX10 will be vista only. which is a major drawback.

the final peice of icing when it comes to vista might just be XP's own lockout features. if microsoft stops selling XP, then there will be no more XP licenses given out. many of us who are smart enough should be able to get around that, but still, it will be harder and harder for people to get a new computer and acrually keep the hardware and software up to date with just XP.

I've been using XP since 2 months before it was actually released and never used a license for it yet.

Well actually I use Kubuntu now, I haven't used XP on a home pc in months.

Even at work though, Vista is just going to be a big hassle and offers no reason to change from XP.

I'm content with XP. It's the first MS O/S to not crash nightly.

yeah, but say if someone legally downloads from itunes, or napster, then they try to play the content on their computer... it will freak out at them and cut it it half then double it.

another problem is that there are bits in the file that windows puts there that are something like grenade pins. if someone tries to find a hack and accidentally gets one of these bits there is a good chance that the computer will find out, and well, act like a grenade and basically disallow ANYTHING from being played 100%, butting it in half and doubling.

this is also going to hog computer power like whoa, imagine vista needing to encode things twice everytime you click a song in itunes. it's not going to be pretty.
