Now that your aware of an oil consumption problem, keep a spare quart (or 2) in your trunk. My 2001 GSR at 21K had leaky valve seals. I got that idiot light a few times, and eventually deprived a rod/main bearing of oil. At 60K had to buy a new crankshaft, and decided to look at the positive side of things with a rebuild of my choice. Forged internals, fresh bore & hone etc.

Checking oil has become like getting gas for me. At least every other fill-up my oil gets checked. Take it from me, keep some oil in your car...

So it's been going on for 4-5 days, and you just now did something about it?

True that, my engine is such a champ, I love it. When I had it apart to do an HG everything was so clean and the bores were so smooth, doesn't burn a lick of oil either. HG was all my fault too from overheating it many times.

you drive a subaru WRX correct? If so, I wouldnt worry about a leak down. They are notorious for burning a bit of oil. Also, what kind of oil are you running in it?

Yes, I drive a 2002 WRX, the 2.0L turbo model. I'm not sure what Valvoline was putting in it. All I know is that it was synthetic. When I added some myself I put in 2 quarts of 10w-30 full synthetic.

When you say a bit of oil, I don't think you mean the whole oil pan full in the time it takes to drive 3,500 miles. Now that I think about it, I do remember seeing a leak under my car a while ago after it had been parked for a couple hours. I thought it was just water because of the A/C. I was using it a lot in the summer. It turned out to be oil when I dipped my finger in it. I kinda brushed it off though because I knew I couldn't do anything about it. Could it be that I need to have my oil pan bolts tightened? Is there a gasket that seals the oil pan to the block that could be leaking?

check your oil pan gasket. Also if you keep re-using your crush washer on the oil pan bolt it can start to leak from there as well...I would rec. getting under the car with some brake cleaner and cleaning every bit of oil off from where you see it on the pan etc....then drive it around for a day or two and then check back under the car. You should be able to tell much easier where the leak is forming. Also, when I said a bit, yeah I didnt think you ment 2 quarts in 3500 miles, that is a bit excessive. It isnt unheard of though. If you go search around on Nasioc I have heard of guys burning a quart for every oil change. That in conjunction with your leak mite be your problem.
