e are being mandated by SDG&E to do everything possible to conserve energy and avoid outages - i.e.., closing all
blinds, operating in minimal lighting - turning lights off in offices and common areas, unplugging machines not in use, etc. Doing these few items will help tremendously in relieving the load. San Diego buildings were not designed to cool prolonged periods of 90 degree weather (unlike Arizona) and because the heat and humidity levels are so high, they are putting a tremendous strain on the energy being consumed. Anne Silva, a spokeswoman for San Diego Gas & Electric, urged county residents to reduce usage. She recommend setting the thermostat at 78 degrees or higher. California power grid managers asked residents to conserve electricity Monday, as triple-digit temperatures were expected to push record power demand in the state. Electricity usage was projected to peak at 48,238 megawatts, according to the state's Independent System Operator. One megawatt is about enough electricity to run 750 homes. Before this weekend, the previous power demand record was set on July 20, 2005, when consumers used 45,431 megawatts. Cliffs: its too hot, building cant keep up. san diego is assed out. |
