Default i'm not one to bitch about cops..

..but i had an encounter yesterday that really set me off.

background: there are highways here where the shoulder opens up for traffic during rush hour. when i head home from work, i almost always take that lane as 99% of the time, it flows better than the rest of the highway.

so, yesterday, i was heading home from work. typical ride home, except that i noticed 3 black limos being lead by two motorcycle cops (state troopers). they were in the right lane (not the opened up shoulder), and everyone was going slow around them, like 50mph. God forbid anyone actually do the speed limit when cops are around.

as per usual, i got onto the shoulder (again, legal at this time of day), and got up to 55mph and started slowly passing the limos.

here's when the shit began. just as i got up to the motorcycle cops, and was about to pass them, one of them swerved towards me and went apeshit, and i mean really crazy apeshit. at first i couldn't make out what the hell he was screaming about, but eventually i got it, "GET THE F- OUT OF THIS LANE! GET THE F- OUT OF THIS LANE!", over and over again.

at the time, i was totally confused. i kept mouthing to him, "what's the problem?", and he just kept jabbing his arm to the left, "GET THE F- OUT OF THIS LANE! GET THE F- OUT OF THIS LANE!" he was fucking enraged. the other cop wasn't doing anything, just looking over at me. so, he's going nuts, screaming at me to move, and meanwhile, the dickhead was blocking me from moving over, so i couldn't even get over. and he just kept screaming and screaming. WTF!?

eventually he made room, i moved between him and the other cop, and moved over to the middle lane. he finally shut his fat mouth. i got a little ahead and spotted one of the "Travel Prohibited on Shoulder EXCEPT Between The Hours of 6-10AM & 4-7PM" or whatever. so i pointed at it, hoping he was looking at me. i passed another, did the same, pointed it out.

then they eventually dropped far back, and i just continued on my way. it occured to me to grab the pig's plate, and call in a complaint, but when i thought of that, they were out of sight.

man, i still don't get it. i mean, maybe he was pissed that i was passing on the right -- which i'm uncertain how that rule applies when the shoulder is open. but even if that was the case, there was no reason for the guy to go nuts, not like that. especially since they were going maybe 50mph, and i was passing at an easy 55mph.

the funny thing is, if he had kept his fat mouth shut, i would have just continued on peacefully, and his blood pressure would have stayed level.

cliff notes: cop went apeshit on me, read the freakin' thread. :slap:

I bet he felt like an ass. It's got to be nice though, to encounter a pissed off cop and not have to recieve a ticket because of it.

yeah, which irritates me even more. i really, really hate that special treatment crap. roads and traffic never get better around here because politicians don't have to deal with it -- which i assume some high and mighty MA state politician was in that caravan.

it's like when Kennedy takes a chopper ride to the cape -- on tax payer money -- so that he can avoid the congestion. nice.

F- that. i pay for these roads just like anyone else. as long as i'm not obviously breaking the law, leave me the F- alone.

All right well I'm not defending him, but put yourself in his shoes. Sure he put you in a strange position but from his point of view you basically did the same thing to him.

Imagine: your one and only job for a time is to keep a convoy of VIP's safe, for which there are a ton of rules to follow and scenerios where the vehicles could be put into danger if people do certain things, like enter the convoy or come rolling up on it, and you've already had like 20 people who don't know to stay out of a convoy like that, come and potentially mess things up.

I'm pretty sure you'd yell to try and correct them. Personaly I would've stopped people from getting on the shoulder in the first place instead of allowing them the opportunity.

Isn't it illegal to pass on the right in MA?

true, i see it the same way. but i kind of got use to it around here, happens alot in this area.

reminds me of this one time there were 4 yukons going about 75-80 mph and the last one had the deck lid open with these two special unit guys yelling at everyone they were passing to stay back. one dude had his gun out.

When they are escorting, they don't want other cars around them.

but yeah, maybe he just felt that i should have known whatever it is that he got pissed about. but again, F- that, and F- special treatment. i was calmly heading home just like any other day of the week. it's not like i got a special announcement in my mailbox reminding me that, "on 6/20/2006, don't forget to stay clear of the caravan of limos!! :loco:"

F- that and F- the man! :madr:

i should have whipped out my PDA and started filming him. man, his head would have exploded.
