it's about freakin' time. if this were done long ago, maybe we wouldn't have the spanish option on every damn thing in existance. and maybe we wouldn't have such a problem with people choosing not to learn the language.

Only in America can somebody make it through life just dandy only knowing one language.
The problem is that the education system in America is so lacking in vision that even people who are born here aren't learning the language properly. I'm all for making English the official language if we can at least teach our kids how to use it correctly.

Pretty much every education system in Europe teaches and practises in more then one language, as does Canada.

Western Europe, probably. Eastern Europe I highly doubt it. Besides, Europe represents about 10% of the world's population. That still leaves 90% of the world.

This country was built on several different cultures. To be American is not to be white or to speak the 'official' language, but to be free and have equal rights. That's why i'm proud to call anyone that is born in the united states, or taken the time to become a citizen, American. Regardless of what nationality their parents or grand-parents were.
