Default My dad might be lookin for a new car

Some of you might remember from a while back I talked about my mom's way-too-long search for a new car (she finally bought an MDX about a year ago. Well, now my dad's looking for a car--potentially--and he's not as much of a pain in the ass about choosing a vehicle as my mom is.

Right now he's got a '97 Mercedes E420 which he bought way back in May '96. It's been a great car for the 10 years he's had it. He also had an '01 Audi TT Roadster from May '00 to May '04 but he wrecked it. Of the three kids only my sister lives at home, and she's going to be getting her license in April next year and my dad's looking to get himself something and my sister will get to drive the Benz. It'll be 11 years old but still not a bad first car by any means.

He's looking at 4-seat convertibles, reason being he likes to have a drop top and wants to have something they can throw their dogs in the back seat. They have doggie harnesses that like, strap into seatbelts and everything. My mom would also drive it sometimes and she's alright at stick but let's just say not the greatest.

Yesterday when I talked with him he mentioned the new Volvo C70 because it's got the flippy hardtop, but I told him I had taken an S40 T5 out for a spin and wasn't very impressed. He also mentioned he might go for a certified used Saab 9-3 convertible because the resale values on em are in the toilet. He was also talking about certified used in general because he doesn't feel like spending the money, even though he certainly could if he felt like it. For whatever reason, it didn't occur to me yesterday when I was talking to him, but today an idea popped into my head: E46 M3 SMG. Obviously drives real nice, is pretty luxurious, doggies can go in the back, it's certainly premium, and he doesn't have to worry about my mom frying the clutch.

Given these criteria, can anyone think of a better idea than the M3?

I can't imagine the M3 is going to be a very practical car for day to day driving.

I guess I could have mentioned that his office is in DC and my parents live in a pretty close-in suburb, so his daily commute is only to the subway station and back. h:

The subway station is actually really close to her high school, and right now he drops her off at school on his way. So if it's in the shop, he could probably live with her dropping him off at the train.

Chrispiss mentioned the Audi S4 vert to me...I totally hadn't thought of that.

I'll make a poll at some point. h:
