Insurance rate on my gsr nearly tripled for no reason, wtf?

Just got a coverage summary offer in the mail today from my existing insurance company (Unitrin Direct). I'm currently an insured motorist under my mother's policy. I've had zero accidents or claims on this car, along with the other cars that are insured on this policy. Pretty much absolutely nothing has been changed. We have 5 cars on the policy and receive a multiple car discount, that + the lack of points/accidents = good rates. For my 90 AWD GSX and Integra I've been paying $87 a month for comprehensive with a 100 deductable.

Now... here is the kicker. In this coverage offer summary, they have my comprehensive rate @ $1,022.00. Along with everything else (bodily injury/liability, Uninsured motorist, etc.) it comes to a total of 1,310.00 per year. Thats nearly triple of what I paid last year (~420) for the same exact coverage  .

So I figure there has to be some sort of mathematical error or something similar to that, and call up the insurance company. Only to hear them say that this # is correct, and the ISO rating is #18 (which is very high according to them). It seems every other company is also offering similar quotes :(.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
I think I may just get liability on the car rather than pay out the ass for insurance for something that isn't even valuable by todays car standards.

ANY input is appreciated.

Zero accidents/tickets/points, 20 years old. I'm insured under my mother's policy. Again, she has had no accidents nor tickets or any points on her liscense. This has nothing to do with any of that, just the fact that the car is concidered so dangerous for an insurance company to insure.
Example: Other cars on the policy
00 celica GT same coverage: $~500
92 civic hatch same coverage: $385
90 Eclipse Turbo AWD GSX " ": $472
92 Talon Turbo AWD TSI " ": $534

99 GSR same coverage: $1310

No worries.

Basicallly, insurance rates aren't locked in for the life of the vehicle. If a certain car experiences a high loss rate in a specific region, an increase in insurance rates is to be expected.

Hold it, your deductable is only $100?
IMO, that's what killing you. :eek3:

rugsr 04-14-2006 07:33 PM

oh yea thats possible! try 500 man
WOW A GSX is cheaper to insure. LOL wtf

Misa 04-14-2006 07:36 PM

maybe they realized your dedcutible is only 100 o:

bigjdog84 04-14-2006 07:39 PM

yep, only $100 deductable on all of the cars. I'll see tommorow what a 500 dollar deductable brings me down to.

Yeah, the gsx/tsi thing makes plenty of sense. 2 cars, 2 built motors, GT35r on one, and a 60-1 on the other, go figure.
