Default wireless network card signal strength

Dudes... my Sony Vaio laptop doesnt have an integrated wireless NIC so I bought a Belkin 54g PCMCIA wireless card. I feel like this card isnt strong enough to pick up wireless signals.
Are all cards like this? Whether its a Linksys, D-Link or a generic one.
Do the signal strenghts differ?

If so, Belkin sucks and im about to go buy a linksys one.

It could be the software, so look for the latest version.

I have a Belkin B card, and it's very very good.

ORINOCO PRO wireless card for THE WIN!!!!!!! AND THE CROWD GOES WILD!!!!!!

Yes, "milage will vary" and "no 2 are made the same". Yes you will find big diffrences between mfgrs AND even models of the same mfgr. Just cause it's a Linksys does NOT mean it's going to be good. Linksys X54 might suck but the Linksys X54.1 might be the best!

Getting one with an external anntenna ability is best!

I've got a D-Link and a Linksys, both seem to give pretty good signals. I think my D-Link one was better. (My linksys was cheaper though)

always update to the latest drivers, also if you are using the wireless router from your home you can buy an extender which will almost double the distance of your wireless connection
