The movie was really good, though the translation (sub) sucked on the 2nd half.

It's the sum of all 3 stages together, with similar things and different things.

Characters shown are:

Takahashi Ryousuke (older brother) of the Redsun with his white FC.
Nakazato Takashi of the Night Kids with his Black R32
The Emperor guys, of the white and black evos
Mogi Natsuki - Takumi gf (yes, the movie proved that she slept with the Benz man for $$)
Bunta - Takumi's dad
Takumi

and a combination character of Itsuki (Takumi's best friend who drives a AE85 Levin) and Iketani the S13 driver of the Speedstar. They combined these 2 as the son of the Gas station owner, named AMU? which had all the attributes of Itsuki (fat, big mouth, etc.) but drove an S13 at the start, then owned a AE85.

They don't show the younger brother of the Takahashi family who drives the Yellow FD (RX-7).

Story spoiler:

Starting with Takahashi Ryousuke and Nakazato Takashi as friends in 2 different groups (Red Sun and the Night Kids). They try to conquer Japan, North and South. As the Night Kids conquer Akira, they beat AMU horibly and amu wrecks his car (S13). Later that night, during practice, Nakazato Takashi looses to Takumi on his way back from delivery (just like Ryousuke from the Stage 1 series). He then comes to the gas station to challenge the Tofu Car driver. Same deal, Takumi takes his dad's car to race because he wants to borrow the car for the date with Natsuki on Sunday. He beats the Night Kids. Then Takahashi Ryousuke of the Red Suns challenges him.

Things go one, he dates Tasuki, etc. Amu comes back with a AE85. They go to mtn top and as Amu seeks advice from Takumi, the White Evo driver from Emperor causes AMU to get into a minor accident (not the red EG driver from the series). He then insults them as trash. Takumi gets upset, takes over Amu's car and sends the white evo into the quadrail (as they raced).

Later, Ryousuke meets up with Takumi to tell him about their races is 3 weeks later. The black Evo driver notices him on his way down and challenges him. The AE86 breaks down. Emperors insult Takumi. Ryousuke steps in and challenges them to a 3 way race.

Bunta swap the engine + the CF hood + tachmeter (all ready and complete unlike the series). During that time, Takumi hears from AMU that AMU sees his gf in a Benz with a guy comming out of a high class hotel. Takumi is confused and disbelief. As he comes with Ryousuke and Nakazato to the 3 way race (Ryousuke, Takumi, and the Emperor's black evo), he sees his gf in the Benz. They race and the Black EVO crashes horibly, falls down the mtn path, but he survives. It then becomes 2 way races. Ryousuke takes over Takumi but at the last turn, Takumi wins. Ryousuke offers Takumi to join Project D.

He goes to Natsuki's place afterward to see her hugs the Benz's driver. He's really sad, comes home, and decides to join Project D.

Overall, it's a very good movie with awsome drifting scenes. I wish that I can understand Chinese because the Sub blows on the 2nd half. Btw, they have some really really good sound tracks.

 

I've heard it was a good movie actually, waitin' for the VCD/DVD to arrive in Chinatown

if it comes out with proper subtitle, I'd definitely get the DVD since it's Very good.

 

i liked the eurodance music from the anime better than the stuff they had in the movie

the story was altered also. Itsuki got a 86 in the movie. in the anime he had a 85
the license plate number is wrong on the hachiroku
how come there's no FD?
