And even my crappy HP lasted me two years. So far this Sony has been trouble-free for 6 months, but unfortunately I can't give any longer term assessment because that's as long as I've had it.
I tend to not necessarily look at an entire line of products as a whole, although some generalizations are sometimes useful. But a $2000 Sony laptop discounted to $1600 after rebates is not the same thing as a sub-$1000 Sony laptop. And at least when I bought this thing, a $1600 IBM had a way slower CPU, less RAM, smaller hard drive, etc.

In that case, and since you're looking at the Dell 9300 which is gargantuan, I'd guess that things like super light weight and long battery life are not your top priorities, correct?

Fan gave out, HDD went bad, screen lost pixles. It was a good comp until I hit about the 6 month mark then things just started going bad from there and when I contacted them about warranty work each of the items was "not covered" according to their terms.
I gove no love to the Sattellite series at all.

Yea they've been available for a couple weeks. I just haven't had to order any laptops recently so I didn't get one. From what I've read though the only major changes were a slightly different processor; Pentium M 730 standard 1.6, and wireless G.
