Default brand new evo already having problems?

a friend of mine bought a brand new evo about 2 weeks ago (16 years old and a brand new evo) and today we noticed that his tach was jumping from 3500-4000 rpms. not during heavy acceleration, but during normal/slight acceleration. like jumping back and forth between 3500 and 4000 fast enough to do it a few times per second. im positive that this isnt normal, but some1 please correct me if i am?

never thought a brand new car, even from mitsbishi, would have problems so fast.

Friend bought a brand new one last year. Every 600 miles the CEL lit up. If I remember it was either the cam or crank sensor. Not even its first oil change and it was traded in for a new s2k.

I'd take it straight back to the dealer.

I'd take it back to the dealer for anything wrong with it while it's covered bumper to bumper.

i know some people with evos (a couple that properly broke them in and more that didn't)

they are proned to have problems... natorious for clutch problems and they have the 6 bolt 4G63 (probably the nicest Mitsu engine) but they have their fair share of problems.

if your friend isn't/didn't break the car in properly (which considering his age and likely reason for buying the car, he probably isn't/didn't) he mine as well sell the thing before he puts 15k miles on it, because the maintenance on that thing is going to be out of this world
