Default e-bay problem, need advice.

I am having a little e-bay issue and need some advice. I won an auction for a guitar and the seller had $35.00 for shipping and handling listed. I paid with pay pal and it added the shipping to my winning bid. A couple days later I get an e-mail form the seller asking for another $36.00 to cover additional shipping. My first reaction was to tell him to get bent, but I do want to be fair, so I replied and asked why I should be responsible for additional charges when shipping and handling was clearly stated in the auction. Here was his reply after he had my payment and after the auction was closed.

Craig,
I told you that the shipping charges were $71 because that is what they were. You ought to pay for some of it.
Roy

I’m thinking I have lived up to the terms of the auction and that any additional charges are his problem, not mine. What do you think? The link is to the auction.

Oh don't worry, this is simple.

Reply to him and copy exactly what it says in the auction. Shipping Cost US $35.00

Then simply say: Your auction says $35 for shipping. According to Ebays terms, I'm not required to pay any more than that. If you feel you made an error on your auction, you can contact ebay and work it out with them. As it stands right now, the auction was for $35 for shipping and that's what I'm paying. Please keep in mind that an ebay auction is a legally binding contract that will hold up in court.

See, you are simply saying, bish no. But it's nice and too the point without being too rough. Do not pay him the money, it's a scam way to get more money out of you. Don't fall for it.

If he continues to insist on paying, don't even bother with replying to him again. It's just a stupid waste of time, just report him to ebay and be done with it.

You don't owe him anymore than $35.00 for shipping. It's not your fault if he entered the wrong amount.

Tell him (politely) that if the shipping was $71.00, not $35.00, that would have swayed you not to bid. Be persistant, and do not pay the extra shipping.

Thanks for the advice; you have put it more eloquently than the last 3 replies I have started to type. All of witch contained creative ways to fitting his extra charges in to various body cavities. Thanks

US $35.00 - Standard Flat Rate Shipping Service (within United States)

it's like saying, oh, the auction ended at $223, but I really wanted closer to $300. Please pay me the extra $77 because I'm not good at the internet and don't understand the mechanics of eBay.

Boycott ebay. That's my opinion, but hey the others were probably better for your situation.

I just received a reply from the seller and he told me not to worry about the extra shipping if I didn’t want to. I don’t want to come across as a dork but he set the price up front. Just hope I am being fair.

I would not pay that extra $35.

I would report that to eBay.

It's crap like this that makes me hate eGay.

Once you receive the guitar leave him a nasty negative feedback.
