VW has yet to prove itself able to make a reliable car past 20,000 miles.

Sorry, I'm just bitter because I owned one before. Someone wake me when VW corrects its ways.

yeah because my old gti vr6 only had 20k miles then it suddenly combusted on it's own.

for the record it currently has 120K miles on the stock clutch.

Rick, just because your 3rd gen GTI VR6 doesn't have problems doesn't mean new ones don't. My friend has a 1996 Ginster yellow VR6 GTI and it's been problem free as well with 130K on it.

Most newer VW's break often. I've had many friends tell me their experiences with the new ones and they're piles of shit. Friend had to have her 2000 Jetta TDI completely rewired (under warranty) because it was junk. Took them six weeks.

I've had another friend with a 2002 GTI 1.8T who's on his 3rd transmission in a year and a half.

Another friend with a 2004 GLI Jetta 1.8T who has broken two motor mounts in 8000 miles.

I can keep going. One experience doesn't reflect everybody elses.

And for the record, the new Golf looks like shit.

vw is the most entertaining company. i mean what other company can your passenger side headlight go out and make the power drivers seat stop functioning?

and the same applies to you as well. just because a few of your friends car had problem, it doesn't mean they all do. I can easily look for "horror stories" of other makes, japanese or german.

yeah your friend has some bad luck with their cars, so? i mean that's your logic isn't it? since i had good experience with 2 VW 96 gti vr6 and 97 Jetta GLX it doesn't mean they aren't still making good cars.

And it's not for the record, it's just your opinion. Many VW enthusiasts love the new design.
