Monday there was a incident at my former HS where a kid had a knife and tried to go after another kid who was picking on him...the kid ended up with a scratch from the knife on his neck. This is the 3rd act of violence in our schools in the last 4 years...which is a big deal for a small town. 2 years ago our Jr. High principle was shot and killed in the cafeteria and the kid who did it shot himself right after. 4 years ago, a man walked into our one elementary school with a machete and injured the principle and a student. Now this...

So a reporter from our daily newspaper came into my work yesterday and interviewed the owner and i..and we made it in the paper h:

But Mandi Krout, a 2002 graduate of Red Lion, said she doesn't think there is anything more that the school district can do. She thinks the problems stem from the home life.

"I think it's more what's going on at home outside of school, and they just bring it to school," she said while working at the Coconut Beach Tanning Salon.

She and Felicia Stump, owner of the salon, wondered if publicity might be a factor. Krout noted that a television station interrupted a program Monday morning to break the news that someone was in the school with a knife.
