As I understand it, it will be very difficult to retain muscle while losing fat through a caloric deficit. I guess the goal will just be to minimize muscle loss. I don't really agree with the plan of simply lowering the weight and increasing reps though but do what works for you. Definitely incorporate a weight/resistance program into your workouts though.

As far as diet goes, I'm a fan of reducing the amount of highly processed foods you consume. If I had to reduce it to certain staple foods, I'd say stick with tuna, chicken breasts, lean beef, cottage cheese, whey, oatmeal, veggies, and flax or fish oil. Ideally you should at least get an idea of the amount of calories you're taking in daily and adjust it as needed. www.fitday.com is one way to do it but I admit that I got tired of doing it after only a few days. It was helpful in showing me that I don't take in nearly enough calories for my goals though. So do what you need to do and good luck man.

I couldn't agree more with you on the processed foods.

that's a great web site, I'm going to use that as much as I can. I'm working to lose about 20-25 lbs by March. I've already lost 10 lbs in 3 weeks, a lot of that has to with the change in my eating habbits. I also go to the gym 4-5 time a week as opposed to me going 3 times a week.
