I'm Visiting My Dad
 

At the hospital today. He had hip replacement surgery done yesterday. He's going to be in the recovery room until Saturday.

Does anybody know anyone who has had this procedure done before? I'm wondering what total recovery time is. :happysad:

They said probably around 3 months. :dunno:

I had it done before. had to give up my night job :wtc: they said I wouldn't be as flexible as I once was. :p

Kevin's dad had both hips replaced; one in the 90s and the 2nd one last year. If your dad does the Physical Therapy, he'll recover a lot quicker. Kevin's dad didnt want it, so he was bed bound for awhile and had everyone waiting on him hand and food. He was in pain for awhile too. But the man was stubborn as hell and didnt do anything the Dr.s said to do. As long as your dad plays it easy and doesnt rush his covery, takes the pain meds and does teh PT, he should heal up pretty speedy and easily.

Why yes, I had to have it done a few months after my hysterectomy.

I have literally hundreds of patients who have had this done and the recovery is different for everyone, some people don't get better, some are walking around pretty well in under a month. The better shape he was in before, the faster the recovery. A few things to keep in mind, do what they tell you, the physical therapists and doctors are trying to help, not torture. When he is walking around, have him checked for a limb length discrepancy. This happens a lot on total knees and hips, if they take too little or too much bone you are left with one leg longer than the other. Simple measurement will let you know if a lift is indicated, more than 1/4 inch would likely require shoe modification rather than a simple heel lift.
