I read something about how you're supposed to have less air in the tires for one...

...of the seasons. Which one is it?

winter i think, b/c when summer comes around the air (which is a gas) will expand b/c of the heat and could potentially pop if you have too much...don't know how valid this is...supposed to be in climates where the winter is really cold and the summer is really hot...but i'm from chicago and doesn't make a diff to me

yeah, i think it's winter too...

oh my....

No, you want the same pressure all year round. Thing is, as it gets colder you'll have to add air to get back to the proper pressure. In springtime it warms up you have to let air out, to get back to the same, proper pressure.

I think it's that you need to have less air in the tire during the summer to keep the same tire pressure that you had in the winter.

Yeah, that makes sense now.

is 32 the right number? i think thats what it says on my door not sure though. so is getting cold brr i should keep it at that number.

how about when u going to race? i seen some ppl lower the air even n the winter but i guess thats because it will get hot eventually? i am a noob.

that's true, but the thing is, people are really forgetful/neglectful and just leave whatever air they have in there and don't take out or add, unless they're really low

nhatters Oct 12, 2004 10:05 AM

Well, when I check the pressure, it always let air out, so am I doing it wrong?

air expands with in the heat and compresses in the cold. if you were to have 32psi in the winter, you'll have much more than that in the spring. the volume of air you put into your tires on a 0 degree day will be greater than the volume of air you do on a 100 degree day.

it's not that you physically keep your tires under 32psi during a certain time of year ... you have to monitor the psi during climate shifts.
