That on film equipment people will pay nearly the new price for used professional equipment? I just gave up trying to buy a used EF mount canon lens on eBay. I guess I will buy one from B&H instead.

I picked up a pair of lenses for under $300. Granted they aren't L Glass but they are in excellent shape and saved me about another $200 and were in my hand on the spot. Give some money to your local shops...seriously the kharma will come back to you and you can also pick their brains for questions you may have. |

The Canon 75-300 is a piece of junk. It always feels like its going to break apart in my hands. The only good Canon telephoto lenses start above $1000. If you want a lens in that range, check out Tamron.

I dunno about all that but I do know I am happy with my Canon 70-200mm zoom lens and it doesn't feel cheap at all and provides me with excellent results. |
Er. Clearly I typed that badly.
What I meant was that if you're shopping for an inexpensive telephoto lens like the Canon 75-300, try a Tamron lens. Nightshade, I've never tried the 70-200. |

Seems all the 3rd party glass available you either lose an F-stop or two or you get real laggy focus. Tamron does make good glass as does Sigma but the focusing hurts. |
I have a 6-year-old Tamron 80-210 that focuses more slowly than I ever thought possible, but it does make great images. I bought it new back when I was shooting on a Rebel G.
