The big story in the news here in MD is some kid from Howard County who murdered his best friend by the way of poisoning (cyanide to be exact):
"Ryan Furlough, 19, killed Benjamin Vassiliev, 17, because he wanted the teen's girlfriend, prosecutors told jurors, describing the defendant as "evil."
Jurors deliberated about 2 1/2 hours before returning the verdict.
Vassiliev died Jan. 8, 2003, five days after he went into a seizure at Furlough's house, where the two had been playing video games in the basement, prosecutors said.
Doctors found the level of cyanide in Vassiliev's blood was 2 or 3 times above normal, and investigators found a package and a label for potassium cyanide in the Furlough home.
Police also discovered a letter from Furlough to Vassiliev that detailed his romantic interest in his friend's girlfriend, prosecutors said.
"Defense attorneys said Furlough was so depressed and heavily medicated that he couldn't rationally make decisions before he poisoned his friend.
In a taped statement, Furlough told police he got the idea to kill Vassiliev and himself after becoming convinced that his friend no longer cared about him, prosecutors said.
Furlough faces a maximum penalty of life without parole at sentencing July 20.
"I've been praying for justice for Ben, and today one of those prayers was answered," said Vassiliev's father, Walter. "I think this whole case was about good vs. evil. ... (Benjamin) was the personification and embodiment of everything that is good."
The kid was the victim's BEST FRIEND...and news like this just makes me depressed
...I just had to share it. The mother and defense attorneys say that he got the cyanide illegally from the internet. AND that he was mentally ill when he made the decision to put it in his friend's soda while they were playing video games. C'mon...he was mentally ill the whole time he was online, making the payment, waiting for it to come in the mail, then waiting for the exact moment to get his friend? PEOPLE NOWADAYS. I personally hope the kid burns in prison. I'm sorry but that's the way i feel about it... 
I thank god for the friends I have and pray that I am never in danger of a psychopath like this kid is.
