Lenses, lenses, lenses.

All you digital folks worry about the camera body too much.

You mean that Sigma 120-300 mm f/2.8 zoom?

Since you have the digi Rebel which multiplies the focal length by 1.6, I would get a 70-200 f/2.8 zoom. Cheaper and smaller, plus it's effectively a 112-320 mm zoom on your body.

Besides, that 120-300 is more expensive than even the Canon IS 70-200.

I am not so worried about the body as you may think. I am getting a high quality body and also am starting a decent glass collection as well.

You can have all the lenses you want of any quality you choose and if you have a crappy receptor for the image then it doesn't mean jack. I am looking at buying the camera for no other reason than the fact that lens availability is there as well as the cameras body is currently one of the 2 best prosumer rated bodies on the market. I need a camera body that can translate all the information I am feeding it the best way possible without being overkill.

If I shoot a 20 minute shutter and get a crapload of noise in the final image with bad resolution then I have wasted money I could have spent elsewhere. The camera I have currently will not allow me to shoot more than a 16 second exposure and when I do it gets more noise than an Ozzy concert.

This hasn't been a short process in narrowing down what I will be getting because it is a major investment in a hobby I am quite serious about pursuing.

Well, one good thing about Nikon cameras is that for the most part AF speed is determined by the motor in the body. Canon uses motors in the lenses, only some really big honkers of Nikon lenses don't use the body's focus motor.

So I would suggest the following:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...=200213&is=REG
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...=151555&is=USA

That 70-200 has a built in silent motor.
