Pulled over- Few q's

I was pulled over on Jan 23rd... the same day i bought my car.

VC 21651(a) Driving vehicle over or upon center divider

VC 16028(a) No Insurance

VC 5200 No Front Plate

_____

My court date is March 2nd(this tues) - I havent gotten anything in the mail, and i have never been pulled over before... so im not sure how this whole thing works. It was 10PM and i crossed 2 yellow lines to turn, and i did not have proof of insurance because i had just picked the car up 6 hours earlier and had not gotten any insurance copies yet...(luckily i did have the car insured earlier that day). So i just have to bring the paper from the insurance showing what the effective date was. I also put the front license plate on the car. And as far as i know.. i have to go to traffic school- how does that work?

Anyone have any idea on what this ticket will cost? Even though i did not get anything in the mail.. i am just suppose to show up at location right?

thanks
Sean

if you were insured, they should just drop that citation, the front plate sounds like a fix it ticket, i really wouldn't know, were not required to have a front plate in michigan. as for the double yellow, i'm surprised he even written you up for that considering you have a clean record but then again he did get you for 2 other stupid reasons. i'd say just worry bout the double yellow line turn. just go the the court house and dress appropriatly. see if you can talk to the cop before your turn, maybe he'll have a soft spot and talk to the judge and let you off. never hurts to be extra nice

You have two choices.

1- You can find out how much the ticket will cost you and pay for it via mail.

2- Go to court and talk with the judge and make your plea. I have heard that some judges take some off the ticket if you show up in person and explain yourself. I would think you have a pretty good chance for getting the ticket reduced since you just bought the car that same day.

nah.. the cop was an ass.. and i dont plan on addressing him at all. He was pissed off that i had no way of proving insurance. So when i told him i had never been pulled over before.. and that if he could in short explain the process... he continued to get aggravated, then gave a laugh/giggle/smirk- he then proceded to walk around the car and get me on whatever he could... cop was young.

this is what i dont understand.. what exactly am i going to court for? Which of those 3 violations results in court appearence? No proof of insurance?? because if it was the yellow line thing.. i am not arguing anything.. i would just pay it and be done with it.

Call the local magistrate or whoever's name/number is on the ticket and ask them what you should do. I would definately plead not guilty and agrue it before the magistrate. As long as your polite, honest and show up, you can usually get it reduced (at least maybe get the point removed).

I'm curious though, what car did you buy?

You can make your plea in court or by paying for the ticket. But if you pay for the ticket by mail your plea is guilty. :)

From what I understand and the tickets I have received 99.9% of the time you are required to appear in court unless you plea guilty and pay the ticket via the mail. If you want to know what your charges are look at the ticket. That sucks that he was a prick and wrote you up for every nit picky thing. If you do decide to go to court and fight the ticket, you won't have to argue with the cop. You will only deal with the judge. If I were you and I had the time to go to court thats what I would do.
