Frys + Sony + batteries = teh suxor
 

So I go to Frys yesterday to pickup a 6 hour battery for my camera and I see the Sony batteries for $149 and the Lenmar batteries for $79 same capacity and according to both the salesman and the packaging it is a direct replacement for what I have.....sweet!

I get home, crack it open and toss it in the camera so I can charge it up. 2 hours later I pull it off the charger to go out drifting and expect to get some footage without the battery going dead on me for once...hmmm....I flip on the camera to check battery stats and it boots fine then suddenly the screen goes blue and says "for infolithium batteries only" and shuts down. WTF?? so I try it again and same thing. I am out of time at this point so I toss in my half charged stock battery and bounce out the door.

So today I took the battery back and was pretty pissed since I lost some really good footage last night due to this error. Turns out Sony switched their chips in the batteries and Frys wanted to sell their stock of old chipped batteries instead of placing the new ones that actually are compatible out there......I flipped on the guy and got really pissed about that and ended up going somewhere else and buying the Sony battery after all.

I called Lenmar and asked what the deal was and they confirmed that it was the chip and I could send the battery in for a "re-chipping" free of charge and that several complaints about this happening have been registered mentioning Frys as the store.

What a fukking waste of my time and loss of footage I could have gotten:mad:

lesson 1, never listen to the $7.00 per hour salesman :mad:

Should have filmed you flipping out on the guy... that'd be cool to see and get you some good footage!

Are you sending the battery to Lenmar to get it "re-chipped"?

No I returned the battery took my money and went somewhere else and filed a complaint with Lenmar stating the value of the footage this mistake cost me.

They are sending me a 30% coupon for a battery :naughty:

I just realized it worked out for the better anyways.....the battery I picked up had more time on it than I thought....10 hours total time available on it :eek:
