Default 2000 GS 400 Vs. 2005 G35

Those are the 2 Cars choices of I've narrowed down too.Any help in deciding on one would be great.
I have 15k cash to spend

2000 GS400:
69,000 Original Miles,old man owned all service records(dealer words)
Price 10,000 negotiable

2005 G35 Sedan
75,000 miles
6 speed trans
13,000

They are both on the same lot.
I saw the cax fax on the G35 But took the guys word for the GS400.
Once i decide which on ill take it by a mechanic.
What do you guys think of both cars +/- :af:

I'm taking both by the mechanic later today.
Although talking to my mechanic he mentioned that he likes the GS 300/400.He also mentioned that the 3.5 in the Infiniti has minor oil consumption issues,but is nothing to worry about.I think im going for the G35 but if they give me a helluva deal,ill drive GS for a couple of years.
My mechanic also mentioned that GS400 has ball joint issues,so he oing to check and see if they have been address.

Compared to the Lexus GS, the G35 is the driver's car. It also looks more modern and it gets my vote. But I would look around to find a 2006 if you can. They have better brakes and they fixed a lot of the interior rattles and wear issues. They also got a handle on the oil burning problem.

The early VQ35DE motors burned oil... some of them excessively. It's not a problem to take lightly.

The idea of having to run 10w40 as a get-by is ridiculous. That burned oil is going to pollute the catalytic converters and O2 sensors, shorten their lives and make every smog-check a nail-biter. It's not worth it, no matter the deal.

If you are committed to a 2005, I would check the PCV valve, the return line and intake fittings for excess oil. Anyone can throw new 10w40 in to mask the signs of burning and blow-by, but if the car has developed either habit, there will be evidence. Changing the PCV early and often can help, but its an annoying job. Better to spend more on a newer model year.

No matter what year G you buy, I would install some sort of catch-can to filter the oil out of the PCV line.

The G35 is a good car, but it had an all-new motor in a new platform. And it was a time when Nissan's quality control was less than stellar.
The good news is they aren't rare. Happy hunting...

My experience (and family's experience) with nissan/infiniti products is this:

I just got rid of my 06 G35 in early June.

It was a great car BUT it did have some serious issues that were luckily handled under warranty.
