One of my favorite FD RX-7's
This guy posts on rx7club.com and has one of the nicest FDs evAr, at least to me. One of the few show cars that I like. Mainly because even though he does stuff "for show" it serves a function, such as relocating his a/c controls to the armrest to make room for more gauges and custom molding the controller for the A'PEXi Power FC into the console.

i like it, but the wing doesn't flow with the car even if its actually functionable.

For a show car it's not functional but on a circuit racer the FD does benefit from a good bit of downforce on the rear. The side skirts help smooth airflow coming under the sides of the car a bit, that rear diffuser creates negative lift which sucks the ass end of the car to the ground, and the wing is adjustable for trim so you can dial in the level of downforce depending on how fast the track gets and how loose the rear is.
So yeah, the aero bits on that car are actually aero bits. And they ain't cheap neither. ;) |
Did they sell FD's here?

Mazda stopped selling it here because it would have had to update it to OBD-II emissions for '96, update it to 1997 federal side-impact standards, and too much warranty work was being done on it that not all of the dealer techs could even perform. So since it wasn't selling so well to begin with and a bunch of federal standards would have needed to be met to keep it legal for sale in the US and the cars were costing Mazda a bunch of warranty work, they pulled it from this market. They sold it in Japan all the way until the 2002 model year. In 2003 Japan brought its emissions standards for new vehicles up to similar levels to the 1996 standards for the USA. |
