Run your hand over the strings, do you feel any ridges or are they smooth. Look under the strings and check to see if there any indentation where the frets hit them, if there are you sir need new strings.

Ridges as in is it smooth or do you suddenly see a different in texture. Bass strings are wound so they have natural ridges.

Neck doesn't look twisted... I'd say get a set of new strings... usually $6.55 a set. You don't need any tools. Just loosen the tuners on the neck, take the strings off and put new ones on. On that note... do you have a tuner or a good ear because guitars are tricky to tune for newbies. Tuning if you don't know is done Bass to Treble as E A D G B E. Once you get a string tuned its easy to tune the rest.

cool.. imma go get some strings tomorrow then. about tuning.. i have jus been tuning the low E w/the piano then tuning the rest.. dilemma is my piano is a tad out of key :happysad: how much would a good tuner be?

question -- how do i get the string off the bridge?

Once you get the string off the tuner pull the string all the way off then the little pegs on the bridge just pull them out slowly with a pair of needle nose pliers. Then just pull the string out, jiggle it a little it it seems stuck.

You can download programs that play a E note and tune it with that. A cheap and decent tuner is around $25 or so.
