its easy stuff, ive done it twice now from semi-scratch (motherboard fried on me twice so i switched some parts over and upgraded)

but i would seriously buy one already built since they are so cheap these days

check out http://www.xpbargains.com/ and you can get it for like 349 shipped

yeah but it is fun to build your own too. I started with an AMD k7 800 mhz now I have a AMD XP2400 with an ECS K7 pro motherboard and a soundblaster pci 610 soundcard and my Nvidia Geforce 2 video card next things to upgrad are my soundcard and my video card.

buy a barebone kit that comes with a case, board, and cpu already burn-in.
buy fan, memory, cdrw, hard drive, video card, and maybe sound card...viola! a computer
only hard part i can think of is putting on cpu fan..it's fragile.
Setting jumper on board, cdrw, and hard drive requires reading directions. good luck

Good build your own PC howto

Just shop around and read review to find what you think you'd like to have and how much your willing to spend and find all the components you'd like to get and order them. Putting them together is actually the easiest part, figure out why they won't work is a lot harder.

Yeah, except the little stuff like where the SATA RAID drivers are so the windows installer can find your HD's or why your computer keeps crashing when you load a 3d heavy program (needed a BIOS update). Only way to learn is to do it yourself though.
