High gear on low speeds?
Hey I was wondering, if driving on a high gear (5th) at low speeds (like 20-25mph) will mess up my transmission in the long run.
I try to shift up asap cuz higher gear = saves gas.
However, I'm just worried that whenever I hear this little grinding noise, it's messing up my tranny.

its alright to cruz in fifth just as long as your not gonna punch it or try and accelerate, by punchin it your gonna suck gas, but im in fifth all the time, just cuts down on teh noise from the muffler.

higher gear DOES NOT mean better gas milage.
try entering a freeway on ramp from a stop starting in first gear and shifting to 5th at 20mph. the amount of power (gas) needed from the engine to bring the car to speed at such a high gear will be more than the power (gas) needed doing the normal, 1-2-3-4-5 shift.
you just have to find the right compromise and know when to shift. but like someone said...tegs are good with gas anyway.
