Basically

Acura = American Honda

Acura sells the luxury stuff like the CL, TL, RL, NSX, RSX, MDX, etc.

While Honda sells the econo-cars like the Civic, Accord, CR-V, etc.

Acura is the luxury division of Honda for the North Americans. In order to "please" the consumers of the North Americans Honda as well as Nissan (Infinity) and Toyota (Lexus) divided their lineup of cars so that they can feel better about themselves for paying over $30,000 for an "Acura" instead of a "Honda".

Honda to Americans began as a "econo" car type corporation with their early model Accord, Civic and Prelude. Small engines, gas saving, and cheap. So in 1987 when Acura debuted with the Integra and Legend, they felt that Americans wouldnt pay over $25-30k for a Honda, so they started a "luxury" division and rebadged it to Acura.

Acura = Honda. To everyone else it is a Honda NSX, Honda Inspire/Saber, Honda Legend, Honda Integra. To the North Americans, it is Acura NSX, Acura TL, Acura RL, Acura RSX.

It's like people think they are different companies, which is true here in the US.

Lexus=Toyota
Infinity=Nissan
Acura=Honda
Audi=VW
