what does a vtec controller do ???
and i have one more question, if you have a supercharger or a turbo charger, how do you control the boost level for them ????

like the name says...it controls the crossover...
for a supercharger to change boost you will need a new pully and a new belt...both smaller for more boost...on a turbo, you can get a manual turbo boost control or an electrical boost controller.

most hondas are set for the v-tec to kick in at around 5500 (i'm not real sure on that number) or a pretty high rpm. a v-tec controller can lower the threshold of the v-tec, making it possible for the v-tec to kick in at a rpm set by the driver. that's what little i know about v-tec controllers. hope it helps.

so if i got a GSR and i set the VTEC to kick in at 4000 RPM ,that gives me another 4000 RPM to work with, but does setting it off so early cause any damage ?????

So is the advantage that you go faster sooner (in laymans terms)?
Is the only disadvantage that your ECU might not be dumping the right amount of fuel the engine will need?
When would a VTEC controller be recommended? Stock car, after i/h/e mods, boosted car, or just driver preference?

On a stock car or near-stock car, there is no real need to move the VTEC engagment point around. If you have some high lift cams or are tuning an FI setup, then it's beneficial to tune the VTEC engagement point on a dyno. If you're going to get a VTEC controller, and then arbitrarily move your VTEC engagement point and then expect a gain, you'll be sorely disappointed. Basic bolt-ons like an intake, header, and exhaust should not necessitate a change in VTEC engagement.

Why not just set VTEC to 2000rpm so you're always in VTEC? :chuckles:
I think some people have to read up on how/why VTEC works. The VTEC controllers generally control fuel and vtec crossover but not boost.
