Default o2 sensor problems - help?

ok, the short version:

- check engine light came on, i pull the code, it's the o2 sensor.

- oem is expensive, so i buy a bosch universal that autozone says is the right one.

- pull the old sensor, see that the core inside the catalytic converter has busted loose and physically broken the o2 sensor. sigh.

- buy eastern catalytic hight-flow replacement (direct fit).

- install all. reset. damn check engine light still won't go off.

is it a bad sensor or do i really need the oem o2 sensor? anyone out there have a bosch (or other) universal 02 sensor installed that works?

thanks,

duke

There should be two O2 sensors on the car... one before the cat, one after. Could possibly the the "other" one that's causing the CEL. Can you post the exact CEL code?

it was the rear one (in the cat) the front one is actually a fuel sensor.

paid through the nose to have it diagnosed. autozone sold me the wrong sensor. one that can cause damage to the ecu. call me pissed off.

warning to s2000 owners. the 00-02 models have a very uncommon o2 sensor, there are a ton of universal ones out there listed as compatable that can actually damage your car.

No secret there, Honda's have always been very picky about non-OEM sensors. Damage to the ecu, that's a first.

Do you happen to have the part number of the "wrong" one that AutoZone sold you? Might keep someone else from buying it by mistake.
