Default Buffer Suggestions?

What do you recommend in the way of buffers? I have various surface scratches here and there for usual wear and tear. Do you recommend using a buffer or just some kind of mildly abrasive polish?

Any suggestions/insights would be great.

IMO the Porter Cable 7424 is the hands down buffer to invest in. Cheaper ones do not generally generate enough heat and power to properly break down a polish, which is what you need when you are trying to correct imperfections in the paint. By hand I don't think you'll get the results you are looking for, or tire yourself out so much you won't be able to enjoy the results .

Why should you invest in a Porter Cable unit?

A) It saves time. When applying coat after coat by hand, you tend to wear out and slow down. Think of the size of your finger tips, then compare that to a 6.5" circular pad, you can cover a much greater surface when using the buffer.

B) You achieve more consistant results. With the Porter Cable 7424, you are guiding the buffer which is doing the work. The pad is applied at the same pressure and consistency from start to finish, rather than by hand, you are pushing with your fingertips which can yield inconsistant results if you miss a spot or do not apply the same amount of pressure in a given area. Also, you are exherting a lot of energy when hand applying products, especially polishes, which require some pressure when trying to remove imperfections in the paints surface.

C) You obtain better results. Because of the random orbiting pattern you do not chance burning the paint like you do with a rotary buffer. However you can generate much more heat than you can by hand, which is a very important feature when correcting the paints imperfections (scratches, swirls, etc.)

Those are the major benefits, with the bundled velcro backing plate, it makes swapping pads extremely easy (seconds) compared to minutes with pads with backing plates attached to them.

A common package we put together for the PC unit is as follows:

Porter Cable 7424
6" Velcro Backing Plate
1x Orange Lake Country Cutting Pad
2x White Lake Country Polishing Pads
1x Black Lake Country Finessing Pad
3x Snappy Clean Pad Cleaning Solution

Package price is $189.99

It's a solid investment, if you wish for me to elaborate on the unit some more please do not hesitate to ask.

Sincerely,
