Default Fresh to the Piston World

Hello everyone!

I'm returning to the world of the piston after a 3 year run with rotaries! Don't misunderstand, I still love the spinning triangles, I just would like something easier to drive and more reliable! I've done some reading, but I wanted to get first hand reactions from some of you if you don't mind.

For instance, I just drove an AP1 last week, an 01' if I remember correctly. Had low miles, very clean, good looking car. However, I noticed that you can't see out the back plasti-window, so I immeditely passed on that option, here lies my boggle. I liked the animalistic kick that the 2.0 litre had. I enjoy a car that will keep me on my toes in the bends. But, after reading on the AP2s and the 2.2 litre, it would seem to me (perhaps I'm off) but with the extra displacement I would think that there wouldn't be as much long term strain on the larger stroke engine. Also, I will be using this as a daily driver/weekend SCCA runner. My local SCCA is small, so I don't really intend on doing heavy modification. What are some of your experiances with the adjusted suspension on the AP2? I heard about increased understeer to counter the wiggly rear, yet still quicker in the slalom... Opinions?

Quick version of questions:

1. Was 03' the year they went to rear glass in the top?

2. Which do Autox'ers and DRIVERS prefer? AP1 Suspension or AP2?

3. Same people about the displacement difference? Yes I understand overall speed and power are near identicle, I would just like an opinion on the FEELING behind the wheel... Not many S2000's round my neck of the woods.

Thank you for you time, and look forward to time in the S2000's seat!

-Rick

Default My 7's

Well, I've actually had 3 of them.... I had an 85' GSL-SE which was a First Gen that came stock with the 13B. then i had a Z31 300ZX, then a 91 N/A Rx-7 coupe and then I had a 3rd gen with a J-Spec motor, DP,CB, AL Radiator and what not. The 3rd gen is just soooo cost heavy and It's just not worth the money and down time at the moment..... Plus I wanted something a little easier to drive, my FD was a big handful on anything that resembled slippy....

I was looking at an 06', But really dislike Stability Management systems.... But thanks for the input regardless!

i work for a honda dealer and i've driven several of each. they went to the glass back in 02. i think the word you used, "animalistic" is the perfect way to describe the ap1. the ap2 feels more refined/civiclized, where the ap1 is more raw. i like the extra low-end power and torque, and more comfortable ride of the ap2, but i love railing on the ap1 with that 9-grand redline. there's another thread here where i list all the differences i can remember between the 2 cars, see if you can find it. the short version is: a lot of DRIVERS prefer the ap1 for its more primal feel, yet the ap2 has better performance. drive one of each and draw your own conclusions. either way, i absolutely love the car!!!!

I just really dislike computer controls.... I don't like traction control, or AWD, or and sort of Stability control..... If I spin out and die, I want it to be my fault, not that of a f**ked up computer..... Thanks for the input guys! So far, I think I'm gonna try to go with an 03' Berlina Black..... seems to be the one that calls out to me.....
