What kinda of car is this going into? Automatic or 5spd? Do you have an aftermarket head unit already?

You cant be "more or less right" when you install an amp, theres right and wrong. Theres a good bit more to it than what you've described. Proper ground wire length, proper grounding, length between battery and fuse block. Then the power and REM need to be on seperate sides of the car as opposed to the signal wire.

haha, if you're in doubt have someone do it. Ive seen some pretty scary "installs" in brand new cars... that eventually went up in smoke.

in all honesty, it's really not that hard. you basically have it right. it will either work, or it won't. or you'll shock yourself. just use some god-damned common sense, be careful, and you'll be fine. other tips like

run the power wire on one side and the RCA on the other (so you don't get interference)

you want an inline fuse (on the power wire) right next to the battery

you want your ground cable to be pretty short, VERY secure and connected to clean, unpainted metal of the chassis.

ground cable and power cable should be the same gauge.

have fun. here i'm reposting this so it shows up in the thread

by the way, your aftermarket headunit is already installed, or are you doing that part yourself as well?
