That sounds like the same problem that attacks many 6th gen auto transmissions. A guy I work with is about to replace his tranny due to this issue, which caused his car to hesitate, slip, and finally change gears much harder than it should. It's a defect that Honda knows about and even extended the warrantee for, but at 185K km it sounds like you are probably out of the warrantee period. I would talk to a dealer there and see what they say since the policies in the US are probably not the same as in Australia.

This is exactly the problem that I am having with my 1999 Accord V6 auto trans with 140,000 miles.

It hesitates a little, possibly slipping. Then it slams into fourth a couple of times a week.

Here is the strange thing: I had a check engine light about 20,000 miles ago. There were two codes. One was tranny malfunction, the other tranny failure. Since that time, I've never had the light on since.

The problem doesn't seem to be getting any worse at all.

Can I expect it to get worse? Can I also expect that at 140,000 miles that the dealer will do nothing for me?

What can I expect to pay to have the tranny fixed?

Thanks!

Okay... any more information?

Like I have been having this minor problem for 20k+ miles. I don't want to go out and replace a transmission that seems to be working fine.

You say that it is "gone" - what does that mean?

Also, any idea of where to get a reman. and what I will pay for the part and installation?

Thanks!
