Default Speedometer needle sticks, Help!

My car, with all of it's 424,000 miles, has a sticky speedometer. It sticks on Zero and then sometimes it will flip over and stick at 100mph. I have to smack the dash with my fist and it will usually flip to the current speed. I have the most luck doing this with the fewest smacks of the dash when I'm going about 40mph. (sounds stupid but there you go). I know it just about can't be the speed sensor on the trans because of what I just described (so please don't tell me that I have a speedsensor problem).

Question... Is there anyway to lube the needle shaft or anything like that, or what do I do?

holy shit....424,000 miles? omfg...cot damn...wtf? that much milage? geesus fucing christ.

ok, well, you gotta tell us what car you have..it'll be easier.
take the gause cluster out, this is where we need to know wtf you have so we can tell you how to take that off unless you already know how, and clean the inside. and lub the little motor behind the needle. get this from your local hobby store for RC cars which runs on electric motor, buy that little lube and use it on the gauge cluster.

good luck.

My car is a 92 Civic VX. Have had it since it had 64k (10years now). I have taken the cluster off and know how to do that. I had a really hard time pulling the needle off the speedo and gave up 'cause I didn't want to break it. I assume it will come off becasue that is how people would change the gauge background to white or whatever. Do I just give it hell and pull harder, or is there a trick?

Lets see... was I trying to fix it before it was broken or after?

Thanks for the worthless advice and all of your invaluable "knoledge". Stay over in South Korea (or in the accord four door automatic forum). You guys can talk about your sluggish family wagons.
