Default ECU qestion v.1.57

Ok, tonight my bro gave me an ecu. Problem is, he has no idea what car its from or if it was auto/man. How can i find this out?

Reason being: Im about to chip my ecu and would either like to chip this one and use it so i keep my stock ecu just in case. Or i'd like to chip my del sol ecu and keep this one as a backup in case I kill my ecu during the chipping process.

Here is the info I see on the sticker on the side:
37820-P06-A01
740-621488
APX

it also has a stamped date of FEB 24 1995 (might be 93) hard to read...

:edit: also, if this ecu was from a non vtec, what issues would that cause?

P06 is DX/LX
P05 is CX

That pretty much covers the 5g non-VTEC cars. Your VTEC won't engage with that ECU, and your injectors won't be supplying the right amount of gas for your engine (if it's VTEC).

Any Honda dealership can check to see if the ECU works on your car based on the numbers printed on the ECU's label.

what if i put my chip on this ECU? The fuel ratio is going to be modified. vtec is going to be set at about 5200 rpm on that chip. but it still wont kick in?

I don't know if the rest of the circuits are present for VTEC to work. The DX ECU may not have the physical connections for VTEC, or the pin orders may be different. I don't know for sure, but since you can get VTEC ECU's on eBay fairly cheap... that's what I'd do to avoid running into snags like that.
