Over or under damped suspension - or mismatch sucks!
I'm scrutinizing my suspension right now and I can't seem to get it right. I want critically a damped system because I hate bouncy (underdamped) and don't want a reduced suspension response (overdamped). I've got H&R OE Sports on my 97 sedan with KYB AGX's.
H&R says the springs are "~20% stiffer" and since they are non-linear springs even spring rates don't mean much without a graph.
I have no idea how the nonlinear performance of the AGX's are, but I'm sure glad I went with adjustables over the GR-2's. At least I can TRY to match it. According to KYB, the AGX's are:
Front:
1 - Same as Factory 100
2 - Same as our GR2 products (10~15% firmer than Factory) 115
3 - 50% firmer than #2 172
4 - 30% firmer than #3 223
Rear:
#1 = 95 (5% softer than Factory
#2 = 100 (Factory damping force)
#3 = 107.5 (7.5% firmer than Factory)
#4 = 115 (15% firmer than Factory)(GR-2)
#5 = 143.5 (43.5% firmer than Factory)
#6 = 172 (72% firmer than Factory)
#7 = 197.5 (97.5 firmer than Factory)
#8 = 223 (123 % firmer than Factory)
I've been riding at (2,4) but it was still too bouncy. So I've adjusted to (2,5) and now will be trying (3,5). But as you can see, that's overdamped.
I wish I had sprung for the Koni yellows instead. KYB's aren't bad, but they just don't have the infinite adjustability like the Koni's.
Any ideas? Or more info?
