d15b7 -> d16y7 direct swap?
I did a search and one thread was an exact match to my problem, only there were no replies :squint:
So what I need to know is, can I just drop in a d16y7 longblock in place of the d15b7 and make everything work together? plug-n-play if you will.
I know the intake/exhaust manifold, motor mounts, harness, linkage and axles will all be PnP. My main concern is the transmission and other crap. Like will the d15b7's tranny be less efficient than one that comes standard on the d16y7. If so, will it be a big enough difference to warrant spending the money to get the tranny? Also, if there are any other parts I need that aren't already in my car.
I just need to find out since no one else in my family does and I don't want to buy a d16 only to have to spend another few hundred just to get more parts to make it work. Also, this won't be modded at all, just a beater while I work and go to school and save for a better car. So performance is a nonissue.
95 civic dx, btw. pretty much all stock.

i think that you can just swap the head if all you want is vtec, the trannys are all the same in d-series, you will prolly need the vtec selleinods, and a ecu not really sure about that though....

d16y7 and d15b7 have no vtec. vtec is a nonissue here.

it should bolt right in. the d16y7 is an OBD2 motor so you might have some issues with the engine harness. i dont know for sure about that though. but it will definately swap right in without any problems, you should just use the DX exhaust system though since the y7 has the catalytic converter mounted on the exhaust manifold. so you should use the b7 exhaust manifold as well as the rest of the exhaust system including the cat.

I'd either put in another d15b7 (if the mileage was low enough) or a d16y7 (that I know has lower mileage)
My old motor is dead no matter what and I don't really care about swapping a higher HP one in. Price is pretty much the same anyway.
