Default To cut or not to cut... bump stops that is.

I've got a 1.5" Neuspeed spring drop.

Putting in Tokico Illumina shocks. They say cutting bump stop can be done if needed.

Well damn. Is it needed or not?

well, it depends on the amount of drop, of you drop as low as me, like 2.2/2...then u should since it will bottom out from hitting the uncut bumpstop. but a 1.5" u shouldnt worry about it.

Thanks. I ask because I"m having the Honda dealer do the install. Apparently, when my one shock had catastrophic failure it took out the dust boot and the bump stop too. So, I need the Honda OEM parts so why not have them do the install.

However, Honda ain't too keen on jerry-rigging parts for the aftermarket scene so I figured they wouldn't want to cut some new bump stops.

Anyway, you guys suggest that doesn't matter so fine by me.

But, does it injure the shock at all to bottom out more often on the bump stops? Does it harm the seat of the shock or the base half?

Thx!

i dont think it would harm the shock nor spring, possibly the seat or tophat but those should be pretty sturdy. the only thing bad is that bottoming out can be really annoying, like when my control arm hit the top of my wheel well.

Because they probably charge a rediculous amount?

Buy them yourself and DIY.

Oh, and I have H&R sports, and I didn't cut the bumpstops.

A Koni engineer told me that Honda's, at least my 95 Accord, is very bump stop active and should never be cut.

Two new front shocks = $210
Cost of installation = $140
Not having to dick around with a fvcking spring compressor and waste a whole day = PRICELESS.
