In a quest for the real deal, Matt Tucker goes coast to coast for his Civic Type RWhen the NSX-R was first introduced in the early 1990s, the goal was simple: build a no frills version of Honda's mid-engine sports car that would compromise creature comforts for road feel and improved performance in just about every category. But as cool as the Type R was, it was way out of reach for the average enthusiast. There was a serious disconnect between the stripped down flagship and more affordable, economy-focused cars of the Honda lineup the average Joe could actually afford - that is, until years later when the automaker unveiled the Integra Type R (ITR), and shortly after it the Civic Type R (CTR).
