Default Failed Emmission Test

g/f just bot a 91 accord for son. It has failed the Missouri emission test for high levels of HC. I first changed the plugs. wires, air filter, pcv valve. It failed again but the levels came down but not enuff. I have since replaced the O2 sensor, fuel filter (it has some hesitation at very slow speed when gas applied) i took off egr valve and cleaned (it wasntr bad at all) cleaned throttle body changed oil and filter replaced valve cover gasket(was leaking small amt of oil) new distr cap put on.

what else could it be besides cat converter? also how do I get rotor off the distrib?

shop wants 100.00 to put on a machine to tell what exactally wrong..I think thats BS. I havent had retested yet because i want to replce as much as possible before buying new cat converter.

my g/f put some stuff that was supposed to guarantee it pass but it didnt (in the gas).

any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Running a higher octane gas with some octane booster will lower the hydro carbons alittle. You best bet would be the cat. After al you have replaced. Thats probably really good next choice for your hesitation.

Heres some accord factory manuals.

Make sure the timing is at specs, an advanced timing will increase HCs. Also a catalytic converter that's not warmed up properly may fail on HCs too. Make sure the car is warmed up.

thanks to all .. i will prob get the cat changed .. WEIMAN..can you hook me up with your friend at the emission station? She has spent about 250.00 so far on the car ..a place says they can put new cat on for 149 plus tax ..is this a good price? what about the machine thats supposed to tell what is exactally wrong? 100.00 just to put on machine seems very costly. i prob will just change the cat instead.
