Default I really want to get this digital camera

Panasonic DMC-FX7

It's got pretty nifty features. First off it's nice and small like a Canon Elph or whatnot. It's also got a nice Leica lens, optical image stabilization, a diffuser effect for the flash, a bigass huge screen on the back, and according to dpreview.com reproduces pretty much the highest amount of detail for any pocket sized camera.

We shall see however if I actually get it. I think I need to redo my brakes soon, they've started to squeak every once in a while so I'll probably use that as an excuse to replace everything with Spec Miata rotors and Cobalt GT-Sport pads. And that'd put a delay on any new digicamness.

Yeah I have a stupid Canon S200 2 megapixel hunkajunk. It stopped reading CF cards a couple months ago. Supposedly it is fixable by taking the thing apart and getting a bunch of accumulated dust out of it with canned air, but I don't have a small enough screwdriver to do so. So a word to the wise to anyone with a Canon digicam that takes CF cards, this is apparently a pretty frequent problem, at least I got that impression from my perusal of the web. Canon SD card cameras do not seem to have this problem.

If you looked closely at the first pic you would see the following on the front of the lens:

LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT 1:2.8-5.0/5.8-17.4 ASPH.

Which should have been totally obvious to you that it has a 3x zoom. h:

5 megapixels.

But all megapixels are not created equal. The quality of the image depends just as much on the sharpness of the lens you're using as the image sensor. Yer typical pocket sized camera has a pretty crappy lens so adding more megapixels to it will only make so much of an improvement. Use a sharper lens though, and you can continue to make improvements with higher resolution. Leica has a reputation for making rather spiffy lenses, and the tests on dcresource.com seem to indicate that this camera has a pretty good amount of detail for its size (irregardless of megapixels).

You probably should check out the actual size of the CCD or CMOS if you are that concern with megapixels h:

I'm not concerned with megapixels, I'm concerned with actual resolution in terms of LPH (lines per picture height) like at the bottom of this page: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonicfx7/page8.asp
