Default How to repair chipping paint?

it started off as a small crack, but it eventually got bigger and the paint is chipping and its looking ugly because you can see the white layer. my dad told me it mustve been bondo'd (salvaged car) since its chipping like that, and i can see white marks. for now, i put touch-up black paint and its healed the look for a while, but anyone know how to fix this before it gets worse??

ill post pics up later

Just because the paint is chipping doesn't mean it's been bondo'd. Chipping paint can come from the material not being prepped properly before it was painted. Anyways, there's not an easy fix for the problem. You'll have to sand down and "feather" the edges of where it's chipping, and repaint the panel. You didn't mention where the crack and chipping is...so it's hard for me to tell you how much is needed to be painted.

Yes what rogue said, bondo just doesnt do that you can get it from poor adhesion of the materials or not prepped properly.

just sand it down but try not to go to the bare metal, if so depending on how big the bare metal area is you might have to put corrosion protection material on it, then possibly seal it. Just featheredge like he said and you should be fine to refinish.

Where exactly is the chipping at? On which panel?

that looks like it "could" be bondo, but it could be a shitty prep job or too thick of paint.

would that be good quality or cheap. it seems kind of cost a little bit to be a good job. its a large portion of the right-rear panel (behind the right door)
