Scratch removal?
I want to remove a whole bunch of clearcoat scratches on my civic, but Im not sure what to use, and what steps to take to do it.
I've heard that you can sand down with very fine grit sandpaper, and polish over that, but I want to be sure that it wont ruin my paint. A step by step guide would be very useful.. thanks

for a start, wash your car and dry like always and then use a clear coat polish to remove some of the surface scratches. if that doesnt work, use wax like Nu Finish or Meguiars. just go to autozone or somewhere like that and check out all the detailing products and see if there is something that suits your needs.
for application, use one of the foam or cloth-wrapped sponge applicators.

www.autopia.ws is your friend. There is a book you can download that gives you step by step instructions on how to do that kind of thing. Very helpful. I've used the information in that book every day for the last year. Tons of stuff.
It sounds like you are describing swirls. For that you are going to need a machine to buff them out. Even if they aren't swirls, you can get them out with a machine. I suggest a Porter Cable 7424. You can pick them up in a number of stores. WalMart, Lowes, etc. Depending on the severity of the scratches you'll need a polish to take them out. AutoZone and PepBoys carry probably most of what you'll need.
check out Autopia and download that book. Its got everything in there.
