S2000 question

Hey guys....not enough traffic in S2k to ask this, so I'll ask those of you who i actually know :)

Test driving an 05 w/ 40k miles in a few hours. Anything I need to look for in particular? Its a CPO, I have them offering it at $20k right now (down f/ $24k which I laughed at.)

I'm gonna take it for an hour or so and really give it a good look over. Also have an appointment to look at the G37S and some Z4s. We'll see where it all goes.

As to price, $18-19 k sound about right?

Also, anything i need to know about the 05 that I might have missed? No good lease offers on new, so I'm investigating this as a purchase over 5 years.

i dont know about s2k pricing but 40k miles and 2005 sounds like a lot...but i'm pretty sure it isnt.

XScarAudio 11-26-2008 03:07 AM

kbb on it is about $20k but this market is screwy right now. As to moving the thread, that's fine as long as i get a bit of advice. In the end, final pricing point isn't crazy important...i'll negotiate the payment i want and they'll fix the price to get me there.

Cosmo M3 11-26-2008 03:33 AM

mr22na 11-26-2008 04:21 AM

TT FTL

i hate that baked potato looking thing

lowbrow 11-26-2008 04:26 AM

That price is ok... especially if it is in perfect condition. There are definetly better deals out there. But not really too much to look for, if the interior and exterior are mint - and its what you want. It'd be a good car. and old TT FTL, new TT FTW.

Cosmo M3 11-26-2008 04:28 AM

Also, try buying it from a hardcore enthusiast from S2Ki

they're usually anal about maintenance and the overall condition of the car is usually better than whatever you find in dealerships.

XScarAudio 11-26-2008 04:36 AM

I thought about looking at private party sales, but at this point in my life, I want a good warranty. Less shit i have to worry about. The honda CPO program is pretty good thankfully

Skelly_GSR 11-26-2008 04:50 AM

meh I would hold off XScar.

Is there anything else that money could go to? House? :)

AP2 11-26-2008 05:05 AM

That price sounds just about right. How tall are you?

We are in the housing market and currently rent one...we'll still end up buying. This is extra $ and im way over due for a new car.

As to height, I'm about 6 feet tall.

Had one... lost in in an accident - so I'm back on the trails for another! Probably waiting till spring though, the Canadian dollar is the suck...

TaekOne 11-26-2008 07:25 AM

do it :o

:hsugh:

XScarAudio 11-26-2008 07:51 AM

Ok, got the car in the driveway and did a thorough run-through. Whomever owned it before abused the leather pretty bad:(. There are some usual blemishes and the tires are entirely shot. The top center console cover is missing w/ the airdam. It also smells like mildew. As a car, I absolutely love how it drives but i feel it may have been neglected. They're gonna have to come in w/ a seriously lower price. i'll have another update later.

scotttharobot 11-26-2008 10:09 AM

ah bummer.

I'm 6'6", and I can just barely get my knees under the dash to work the clutch. I have to turn the wheel hand-over-hand as my legs are right there. haha.

reech-around 11-26-2008 10:51 AM

keep looking, AP2s with low miles can be had for ~$20K.

XScarAudio 11-26-2008 11:40 AM

They said that the tires are gonna be replaced and the console will be fixed. They also dropped the price by $500 or so making it about $22k out the door including tax, title, etc which i'm not crazy happy with. If they come back with $19-20k out the door, Ill push the civic at them for $2000 trade and consider discussing financing $18k.

lowbrow 11-26-2008 03:09 PM

If you can walk away with it for that price from a Honda dealer than I'd do it without a second thought. If they do a nice interior cleaning before they give it to you, that should take care of that smell, and if they fix all the small issues, it'd be perfect.

XScarAudio 11-26-2008 03:28 PM

I have 2 more appointments now at dealers within about an hour drive. One is a 2005 w/ 30k miles and a starting price of $18,950 and the second is a 2006 with 20k miles at $20,900. I'm pretty sure i'm gonna go w/ the S2000 this week, but i still want to drive a few other cars. I can't get infiniti to call me back though, which pisses me off.

Also, the original dealer has responded to me and said they want to negotiate based on the prices I just listed once I see the other cars. There's hope still. my biggest concern is the leather wear on this one though.

lowbrow 11-26-2008 03:31 PM

Ah, those other options are nice. I'd be interested to drive the 06 and see what the drive by wire throttle is like in the S2000 (I think it was put in that year), in my civic SI it is garbage (even after the reflash) - So keep that in mind. What colors are ya looking at? And do you have a mind set on what color you really want?

XScarAudio 11-26-2008 03:34 PM

here's one of them:
(actually 40k miles, not 30 now that i look)http://www.wildehondaofsarasota.com/...ils/1080225164

These three are are all the dark silver. The only color i'm really against is the light silver. My favorite colors are probably the yellow or dark blue (sorry i don't remember the honda paint names). In the end, the color isn't a huge factor for me.

lowbrow 11-26-2008 03:40 PM

I had the rio yellow - which I liked, however I could definetly go for the blue as well. When I buy in the spring I'm sort of aiming to buy around St Petes or Tampa oddly enough. Just cus my parents are flying up there to vacation in March - so I may go with them and drive back another S2k.

XScarAudio 11-26-2008 03:41 PM

what color is your current one?

lowbrow 11-26-2008 03:46 PM

I only had the yellow one, but it was written off in an accident a few months back... I made the mistake of replacing it with a civic SI.

cpvdh 11-26-2008 04:02 PM

there a cr locally for $23k, 7k miles, never tracked, blue, private party
wish i had the $$$

XScarAudio 12-01-2008 03:37 AM

Working on financing now for the one I linked above. We shall see.
