which in the end aint worth it cuz the head of the k20a2 is one of the most expensive components...plus the block is diff....or rather the internals of it
if you want a rsx..then get a ep3....at least its diff. and got the cool rally shifter....otherwise type s with out a doubt :werd:

ok first of all isnt the rsx base an automatic 5-speed?
you said the ECU is disabling the other 3 valves right, lets say i got an ECU that enables the other 3 valves, would that give me 'real' VTEC?
btw i have an 03 EP3, does that change anything?
is mine running all 16 valves?
i dunno, just wondering.
The base model doesn't have true VTEC as Honda would like you to believe.
In the K20A3 (base), it has full usage of VTC (that's the i in i-VTEC) but only one cam lobe. The ECU is tuned to disable 4 valves below 2200RPM and uses full 16 valves above 2201RPM.
What they call VTEC in that car is switching over from 12 to 16 valves.
In the K20A2 (02-04 S) K20Z1 (05-06 S) and K20Z3 (06 Civic Si) engines, they run in 16v mode all the time and when a certain RPM threshhold is exceeded (in my case, I have the Z1 so I crossover at 5800RPM) my engine switches cam lobes to a much more agressive setting. That's how I make power all the way to ~7600RPM

and no, using an rsx-s ecu wouldnt give you real vtec. you need the entire head also. btw, you have the same engine as the base rsx.

k20a2 head, ecu, ecu harness and the head alone will cost you around $1200 at cheapest...so the money is better spent boostin the motor unless your gonna stay n/a but if you was gonna do that youd be better off buying the whole k20a2 swap(tranny, ecu, harness, etc.) or k20a(type-r) motor...but hey that just my opinion

Yeah, that's what I was going to say. Since you're thinking about the base 5 spd RSX just get the Civic Si w/ rally shifter. Same motor as RSX. I'd just get the Type-S personaly. It's just like before RSX existed. People was trying to decide whether to get a Gsr or Ls, Se etc.. But you have to decide what you really want to spend & can afford... Good Luck Post pictures after your purchase.
