well from 92-96.... there was the base engine which was the F22a was a 2.2 liter SOHC. next setup up was the H23 DOHC 2.3 liter. next step was H22 DOHC 2.2 liter VTEC.

I think 92 might not have had the H22.... and preludes were done being made in 01.

90-91 was the 3rd generation of the Prelude. 92-96 was the 4th gen (woot!) and 97-01 was the 5th and final generation.

The 97-01 only came in 2 flavors and they both had the same engine. H22 2.2liter DOHC VTEC... only diffrence was the suspension between the BASE model and the Type-SH.

There were slight improvements in the H22 from 97-01 but not much... 5hp maybe.

He's basically summed it up for ya, but 2 corrections: Another difference between the base and SH model of the 5th Gen preludes was that the SH had ATTS (Active Torque Transfer System), which may have been so obvious he forgot to mention it. Then again, you only asked about engines. Also, didn't the 3rd generation also include 1988 and 1989, along with 90 and 91?

I don't know the engine codes for the carburated 1st and 2nd gens, but here's a quick list of the USDM Prelude engines:

79-82 : 1.8 CVCC 3bbl downdraft carb 72hp
83-87 Base (sometimes called DX) : 1.8 dual sidedraft carb 100hp
86-87 2.0Si : A20A SOHC 12v 110hp
88-90 2.0S : B20A3 SOHC 12v dual sidedraft carb 105hp
88-91 2.0Si : B20A5 DOHC 16v 135hp
90-91 Si : B21A1 DOHC 16v 140hp
92-96 S : F22A SOHC 135hp
92-96 Si : H23A1 DOHC 16v 160hp
93-96 VTEC : H22A1 DOHC 190hp
97-01 ALL : H22A4 DOHC 190-200hp

93-96 VTEC : H22A1 DOHC 190hp
97-01 ALL : H22A4 DOHC 190-200hp

sounds about right, a couple mistakes though: 92-96 S (F22) put out about 140 HP. 93-96 Si (H23A1) put out 160HP, not 140HP. and the 97-01 was between 195-200hp... besides that, nice work.

ya, I messed up on the H23. The info I have shows the F22A at 135Hp, and the 5th gen auto at 190 or 195, and manual at 195 or 200 depending on exact year.

i think hes right about the f22 and the 5th gen 190-200. cause didnt they rate the autos at 5 less hp, and in 99 there was a supposed 5hp increase due to exhaust manifold change. cough bs marketing cough. so that would make 97-98 autos 190, manual 195 and 99+ auto 195 and manual 200.

There wasn't in the US, but there may have been in other parts of the world (I know it's that way for 3rd gens, US had B20A5 and Europe had B20A6 and B20A7).
