5th gen ludes rich?
hey, has anyone else checked to see if they 5th gen lude runs a lil rich if it is mostly stock? Mine tends to run on the rich side even though my only mod is an intake....

from previous discussion i'll agree that they run a bit rich..

yes sir, you are correct. My runs rich especially around VTEC from the signs of black smoke from the exhaust when I hit it.

Originally posted by Jacques Ditto (hi, THATPRELUDEGUY, btw :p). I no longer have that black smoke anymore after putting in my V-AFC. Anyway I'm guessing that's why the largest gains are made with the VAFC in the VTEC transition RPM's. Was yours Wideband O2 tuned? If so is that the part of the RPM range that fuel is cut the most? |

Jacques, odd seeing you over here![quote] Got bored, I wanted to see how my "old haunt" is coming along. mine was running pretty rich..about 10.2 on most parts of the power band (compared to the ideal 13.2-13.5)
i got a v-afc to straighten that out though. and i highley recommend it. and it saves you some gas :) (if you keep the thought out of your head that it is faster :naughty: ) but from my experience, most cars, especially modded ones, run rich. i've seen some cars run in the low 9s on a fuel curve. that's freak'n pewp. just get a v-afc or s-afc (if you dont have vtec) or some other kind of fuel controller and take a trip to your local dyno. |
also, I have a stock muffler and when i turn the car off i can hear sort of a "poof" sometimes or sounds like if you flick an empty coffee can, could this be from it running rich or is this normal cool down?
|
well, usually if you are running rich, your exhaust fume smells strongly of gasoline and just an overall stronger smell.
that's what it was in my case atleast. i'm not sure about the noise though. |
hmm, i wonder if it could be that something is wrong with the muffler itself, i dont know if anyone else seems to hear it.....
