Question about redlining!
Till what rpm are you revving your 5th gens and what will happen if you rev it too high? Just curious about it because somebody told me that I can rev it close to 8.000 rpm sometimes without damaging anything.
Will I feel the difference when anything got damaged because of that?
Sorry for my english (I´m from germany!) and thanx a lot in advance!

Why do you want to go beyond the power curve of the H22? Anyway, the ECU limits you to 7400 rpm and the tach may indicate 8000. Can you hurt the motor constantly winding it up-eventually you will cause wear and if you miss a shift break it. Can you tell if you've pushed it too much-the first thing I would expect is a rough idle and maybe some clattering sort of noise.
Do yourself a favor and find the point to shift where you loose the fewest rpm and still are able to accelerate. THis should be below redline.

don't shift near redline.. big no no... you can bang the rev limiter but that's still so bad.. do exactly what jc said...
if you hear clattering.. it's the beginning of the end.. i killed my engine by always getting up near the red line/ rev limiter... big mistake.. my poor baby..
btw.. her engine swap starts today finally!!!!

IF you change your oil regularly (3,000 miles), and IF your oil level is full all the time, and IF you hit the clutch the very SECOND you peg the tach, you won't do any serious damge. However, DO NOT make it a habit! So long as you shift right at red line or before, you should have no problems. It also depends on how old your car is. If it's new (less than 100,000), the compression, seals, and valves are probably in perfect tolerances. As it gets older, those things will inevitably wear out, and I wouldn't go burning things up with 150,000 miles on the engine. Even if it still runs great.
Geez, guys, why NOT run it to the redline? What fun is it driving around like a granny? I run my '99 to the redline several times a week, and, yes, I have seen the needle go as far as 8 grand, and I don't feel like I'm hurting the engine, either.
