Car Rattles
I have a system in my '97 Prelude (Panasonic head unit, Alpine 300w x 1 amp into 2 12" Kenwood Tornado subs) and the thing rattles my trunk and even my side door panels like hell. I was wondering if porting my box (it's completely sealed right now) would take away some of the rattling from the trunk. I may also just Dynamat the trunk and speakers in the doors. Any suggestions to help stop the rattling? Thanks.
a lot of times the rattling from the trunk is actually the license plate. Try putting some small rubber grommets or bushings behind the plate and run the mounting screws through them. As for porting I'm not sure. If the speakers are specifically made for a sealed enclosure they might not sound as good if you port the box. I'd ask someone at an audio shop.
Actually porting the box more often than not increases Dbs. But with your already high sound system, if you want to stop the rattling, you really just have to cut down on metal to metal contact. the license plate idea is a good start. try checking the seal on your trunk to make sure it is tight. also, you could probably put little rubber washers in your trunk lid where the outer metal meets the inner lid frame. same thing with the doors. Also the box might be the problem. Make sure it is secure in the trunk(screwed/bolted) tight, along with screwing the speakers in tight.
what i did on my cherokee cuz it rattled like a muther i went down to carquest and asked them if they made oversized weather stripping and they happend to make that and i put that on all the doors and the trunk plus the idea with the rear plate... but that cut down on almost all of the rattling of the doors and what not. i dont know if they make it for the ludes but im sure if u look around you can find osmethign that would work.
